WALL OF MISCONCEPTION
Most of us have heard politicians and the media refer to the "wall of separation between church and state" as coming from the Constitution, written by our founding fathers.
However, the First Amendment to the Constitution, which gives American citizens the right to freedom of religion, never mentions the "wall of separation between church and state," nor is it mentioned anywhere else in the Constitution.
Actually, the phase "separation of church and state" can be found in a private letter Thomas Jefferson wrote in 1802 to the Danbury Baptist Association.
Peter Lillback, author of George Washington's Sacred Fire, examines the history of freedom of religion in the United States and what our founding fathers real intentions were for the roles of government and religion in our country.
