Hope of Glory
And he said unto them, Take heed, and beware of covetousness: for a man’s life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth. Luke 12:15
Jesus is talking to His disciples about the Pharisees in Luke 12:1-3. He said, “…Beware ye of the leaven of the Pharisees, which is hypocrisy. For there is nothing covered, that shall not be revealed; neither hid, that shall not be known. Therefore, whatsoever ye have spoken in darkness shall be heard in the light; and that which ye have spoken in the ear in closets shall be proclaimed upon the housetops.”
In the middle of Jesus giving instructions to His disciples, one of the company said unto Him in verse 13, “Master, speak to my brother, that he divides the inheritance with me.” Jesus immediately changes His course of teaching and begins to warn this man of covetousness. Our key verse gives us the thought process of Jesus.
A man’s life consisteth not in the abundance of things he possesses. While we work hard to achieve a measure of success in this world. We are not appreciated, valued, esteemed, treasured, and cherished because of our possessions.
Do we realize the difference that could be made in one short life time if we focused as hard on leaving a legacy of leadership, self-control, guidance, and direction for the next generation? It can change the trajectory of the flight in young lives if we are known for our honesty, loyalty, love, and conviction; living a life of a true disciple of Jesus Christ. Take a moment today and ask yourself, what do others see when they see me? Do they see a man only made happy by things? Is covetousness really the answer?
Our prayer for you this week: May you come to realize the value within yourself, Christ in you, the Hope of Glory.
