More Than Conquerors

| Josh Shields

Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us. — Romans 8:37

Conqueror: one who conquersone who wins a country in war, subdues or subjugates a people, or overcomes an adversary

Do we really understand the power of these words? Paul picks up his quill, strikes the parchment, and begins to encourage the church in Rome. Someone must have felt like a loser, a lesser foe, unable to bring anything under subjection or under their feet.

What do you say to folks who have this kind of mentality or mental capacity—the kind of people that are ready to give up, throw in the towel, turn around, quit, leave, resign, or vacate?

He did not say you are a conquer, a winner, an overcomer—words we would love to hear in times of struggle, adversity, or distress.

Paul tells them you are MORE than a conqueror, MORE than a winner, MORE than an overcomer. In fact, he is telling them you are MORE than a champion. Goliath asked for a champion, but God sent out more than a conqueror. Gideon’s army started out with 32,000 and was reduced to 300. Have you ever realized the power of 300 men that are more than conquerors? David was surrounded by 37 elite warriors that were called “mighty men,” that were celebrated for their notable accomplishments, including defeating a large number of enemies in battle.

It’s not how big you are in number. Who God has made you to be is all that matters, and you my friend, have been called to be more than a conqueror. No matter what you are facing or the size of the foe, you were made to be more than a conqueror and subdue it.

Our prayer for you this week: May you come to realize you are more than a conqueror through Christ Jesus.
