What the Father has waiting for you

| Josh Shields

“And Jacob sod pottage: and Esau came from the field, and he was faint: And Esau said to Jacob, Feed me, I pray thee, with that same red pottage; for I am faint: therefore was his name called Edom. And Jacob said, Sell me this day thy birthright.” Genesis 25:29-31

We have all become familiar with the term DNA, also known as deoxyribonucleic acid, a molecule that contains the genetic instructions for the development, functioning, growth, and reproduction of all known organisms and many viruses.

Here in Genesis, we find not just brothers, but twin brothers, the same mother and father. However, as much as they were alike, they were just that different. Look, if you will, at their hardwiring. One sees the value of the birthright and is willing to buy it. Not only does he see the value of the birthright, but he also sees the power of the father’s blessing and is willing to steal it.

On the other hand, Esau is willing to sell his birthright for a bowl of pottage and is so weak and tired that he does not see his brother making the move to steal his blessing. Same DNA, yet so different.

Both men had to know what was up for grabs or at stake. Raised and instructed by the same father, yet one loses sight of his rights. Might I say, we have been handed the Word of God, the roadmap to an inheritance and blessing of the Father. Scripture declares we have all been baptized by one Spirit into one body.

Which way will the pendulum swing when it comes to your hardwiring? Will you see the value in what the Father has waiting on you? Or will you be willing to sell out?

Our prayer for you this week: May you come to value what the Father is trying to give you.
