Our God is in the Heavens!

| Josh Shields

Not unto us, O Lord, not unto us, but unto thy name give glory, for thy mercy, and for thy truth’s sake.

Wherefore should the heathen say, Where is now their God?

But our God is in the heavens: he hath done whatsoever he hath pleased.

Their idols are silver and gold, the work of men’s hands.

They have mouths, but they speak not: eyes have they, but they see not:

They have ears, but they hear not: noses have they, but they smell not:

They have hands, but they handle not: feet have they, but they walk not: neither speak they through their throat.

They that make them are like unto them; so is every one that trusteth in them.

Psalm 115

Psalm 115 is situated in the middle of Psalm 113-118, of what is called the Egyptian Hallel, traditionally sung during Jewish festivals, especially Passover. These eight verses need to be forever etched in our memory.  Listen to the lyrics of the writer, “Our God is in the Heavens.” There is no question about the one true God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. By the way, not only do we know where He is, God can do whatsoever He pleases.

The heathen created, concocted, and fabricated their own gods, gods that cannot see, hear, nor feel. But our God created us to hear His voice, feel His touch, and see Him when He stepped into flesh to make reconciliation for mankind. On the flip side, He can hear, see, and feel what we are walking through. Our High Priest feels our infirmities.

Today, I ask you, what is it you are needing in your life? The God you serve spread out the Heavens with His right hand. The universe and all that is in it is held simply by the power of His word, “Let there be.” If our God can do that, He can surely take care of your need.

Our prayer for you this week: May you come to realize God can do whatever He pleases.
