As The Hart Panteth

| Josh Shields

As the hart panteth after the water brooks, so panteth my soul after thee, O God.

Psalm 42:1

Somewhere, the musician watched a male deer looking for water. It is amazing how the need for water will cause the animal of prey to come alongside the predator knowing the danger at hand. This one drink literally can put the deer in a life-threatening situation. Yet, in spite of the danger, no matter the urge to run, the need and the desire to have his thirst quenched drives him to lay aside the fear, facing the reality of needing water more than life itself.

When is the last time you were thirsty for a move of God in your life? A thirst so deep it drove you to the point of facing down whatever giant was at the watering hole to have your thirst quenched? The song writer of old said my soul panteth after thee. In other words, I am thirsty for a drink of Living Water. My life depends on it.

As much as I like the taste of an ice-cold Coca Cola on a hot day, you, like I, have been there when you come in hot and sweaty from working around the place and open the refrigerator, pop the tab on the can, and feel the burn of the fizz as it goes down. As good as that is, it does not quinch the thirst like a good old glass of ice-cold water. There is just something refreshing about water.

Better yet, there is nothing as refreshing as a touch from God on your life. While we enjoy all the finer things of life God has given us, nothing compares to a drink from the Living Fountain of the Word of God.

Our prayer for you this week: May your thirst be quenched no matter what giant you are facing.
