Attributes Of A True Believer

| Josh Shields

In the midst of the street of it, and on either side of the river, was there the tree of life, which bare twelve manner of fruits, and yielded her fruit every month: and the leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations. — Revelation 22: 2

Why is it that we only talk about nine fruits of the spirit? Galatians 5:22-23 lists love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control.

These attributes, we are instructed, should exist in every born-again believer’s life. The fact is: The Scripture says we should be known by these traits or characteristics.

Can I ask us to all take another look at Scripture and see what John the Revelator saw in Revelation 22? He saw a tree that bore twelve fruits. In other words, there is never a dormant season when it comes to the tree of life.

If we take another look, we see love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. What could one possibly add to the mix that believers are missing?

Mercy, grace, and restoration are three attributes that we as believers struggle with the most.

If we are truly going to be Christlike, these three attributes have to be active in our businesses, homes, communities, and churches, not to mention, our daily walks. The reason we struggle to display these three is we must be truly connected to Christ. Outside of Him, it is virtually impossible for us to live out mercy, grace, and restoration.

As good as we try to be, if we are honest with ourselves, we struggle to give these three a chance in other’s lives.

Our prayer for you this week: May you bear fruit every month, yielding up the very attributes of a true believer.
