Controlling, Lying Spirits

| Josh Shields

A fool uttereth all his mind: but a wise man keepeth it in till afterwards. If a ruler hearken to lies, all his servants are wicked.

—Proverbs 29:11-12

I have to start by asking some questions. Have you ever noticed those who want control, hate control? Or those who struggle with money want control of everyone’s money? It seems 99 percent of the time those who abhor lying, battle lying themselves, and those that want transparency for everyone don’t want to be transparent about themselves.

The wise man of Proverbs gives a strong warning about a couple of spirits that we need to steer clear of: 1. A man that cannot keep his mind and thoughts under control; 2. One who entertains a lying spirit.

The danger is what we entertain never stops with us and us alone. The wise man said what we harken to will eventually affect all of our servants. In other words, it will potentially infect and affect the whole kingdom. The things I mentioned at the very first of this devotion are all products of a seductive, controlling spirt.

This spirit always comes at or targets the head of the body or the one in charge. Why is this? If this spirit can control the one in charge, it can affect the direction of the whole kingdom. Once this happens, the kingdom will abandon kingdom principles, lose direction, and fall prey to the adversary.

Have you ever walked into a huge cobweb? Isn’t it incredible how hard it is to get off your face, hat, and clothing. It is the same way with controlling spirits, lewd, crude talk and the web of lies we can weave. Once you walk into it, it is hard to get untangled out of it.

Our prayer for you this week: May God guide you away from controlling, lying spirits.
