And as soon as we had heard these things, our hearts did melt, neither did there remain any more courage in any man, because of you: for the Lord your God, he is God in heaven above, and in earth beneath. — Joshua 2:11
How many times have we had predetermined, programmed, or prearranged ideas in our minds about the outcome of situations we are facing? We knew for certain defeat, downfall, or loss were just ahead of us in the journey. Look at the verse you just read. It is a short excerpt of a conversation between Rahab and the two spies sent to spy on Jericho.
Listen to the declaration she makes in verse 9: “And she said unto the men, I know that the Lord hath given you the land, and that your terror is fallen upon us, and that all the inhabitants of the land faint because of you.”
I can hear my father say it, “Your reputation precedes you.” Cain’s certainly did. Before he ever came to the gates of a city, Abel’s blood was crying out. In our reading, the children of Israel’s reputation preceded them, as well. It is not you Israel, it is your God that makes the difference. When we hear the power that is backing you, it makes all the difference in the world.
What are you facing that has you in fear? What is the situation around you that could possibly put fear in our God? There is no situation that could ever put fear in our God. With that being said, I encourage you to take a moment, realign your thinking, and come into step with Almighty God. Square your shoulders and lean back into the harness. Why? Because the victory is already won. We only have to walk it out.
Our prayer for you this week: May you come to realize just how powerful God is, and that His reputation has already preceded you.
