In The Faith

| Josh Shields

But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost, Keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life. Jude 1:20-21

Never have we had as many forms of communication as we do today. Email, instant messaging, text, Instagram, Snapchat, X, TikTok, Facebook, and the list goes on. I’m sure I did not mention all the things available, but the point is never before have we been surrounded with so many opportunities to communicate, work, excel, and have instant results in everything from business to personal relationships.

With all these great opportunities also comes the chance of great consequences, the abuse of keyboards pumping out discontented verbiage, mockings, railings, and slanders, most of which would never be spoken to our face. I agree these things are devastating. The natural reaction is to vindicate, join in, retaliate, and run to others to try to get them on our side. However, Jude said, “Build up yourselves in your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost, Keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ.”

David faced things like this. In 1 Samuel 30:6, David was distressed when the people spoke of stoning him. What did he do? How did he respond? The scripture says he encouraged himself in the Lord. One closing thought, this is how great God is. Enoch, the seventh from Adam prophesied in Jude:14-15, “And Enoch also, the seventh from Adam, prophesied of these, saying, Behold, the Lord cometh with ten thousands of his saints, To execute judgment upon all, and to convince all that are ungodly among them of all their ungodly deeds which they have ungodly committed, and of all their hard speeches which ungodly sinners have spoken against him.”

Our prayer for you this week: May you come to realize the power of encouraging and building yourself up in the faith.
