Behind the beloved flannelgraph landscapes and paper tents of our childhood Sunday school classes lies the complex and fascinating historical world of Abraham.
In Abraham Unearthed, biblical archaeologist Clayton Van Huss takes readers beyond the familiar outlines of the story and into the lands, cultures, customs, and conflicts that shaped the patriarch’s world. Following the biblical narrative from Ur to Hebron, this richly illustrated study explores what archaeology, ancient texts, and historical geography can reveal about life in Middle Bronze Age Canaan—the world in which Abraham lived, traveled, worshiped, fought, and waited for God’s promises to be fulfilled.
Archaeology does not stand in judgment over Scripture. Instead, it helps us recover the setting in which the biblical story unfolds, bringing greater clarity to passages separated from us by thousands of years.
Abraham Unearthed is designed as a six-week study for Sunday schools and small groups, but it is also useful for Bible students, homeschool teens and young adults, and individual readers. Each chapter includes key takeaways, applications, and discussion questions.
Look behind the flannelgraph and follow Abraham’s faith journey with fresh eyes.
