Child of Light

Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son:

Colossians 1:13

Darkness, just the sound of it is unpleasant. Isn’t it amazing what fellowships with darkness? One songwriter wrote about it and said, “The nightlife ain’t no good life, but it’s my life.” Truer words were never written about the nightlife. Everything contrary to good seems to illuminate itself at the darkest of times.

It is not just nightlife that darkness seems to have power over. Darkness cannot just be categorized by the sun setting. It also comes in attitudes, attributes, and even while the sun is shining the spirit of darkness can show itself.

Darkness can appear on the job and take dominion over us through jealousy, gossip, backbiting, and lewd and crude conversations destroying company moral. Darkness will slow down performance, destroy professionalism, dissipate camaraderie, and separate teamwork.

Darkness, through spiritual warfare, will try to put the church in bondage and strongholds. In turn, it causes the church to yield its power of walking in the spirit over to spirits of discontentment, discouragement, and opposition, rendering the church helpless while trying to oppress the leadership.

Darkness has found its way into our homes though airwaves bringing divisions between father and son, mother and daughter, and husband and wife. The oppressing power of darkness is as if it were walls closing in on us, trying to bring us to our knees as we watch the world around us spiral out of control.

The good news is Paul told the church at Colossi we don’t walk in darkness, we don’t even walk-through darkness. We have been given the opportunity to walk in the Light, “the name of Jesus”, pushing out darkness.  Wherever we go, the darkness has to flee. Whether we are at our home, church, workplace, or local coffee shop, we have been delivered from darkness.

Our prayer for you this week: May you come to the realization that where you are, darkness is not welcome. Be the Child of Light God created you to be.
