Ten Reasons to Give on Giving Tuesday

| SWRC Staff

In a nation and world that often seem divided on many levels, the Tuesday after Thanksgiving—Giving Tuesday—brings people from around the globe together with a common purpose: to celebrate generosity and make a difference through organizations that are transforming the world with their good works.

There are many reasons to give. Here are just a few to consider:

  • Giving is how God demonstrates His love for us. “God so loved the world that He gave His only Son…”
  • Giving makes you happy. Numerous studies show that people who volunteer and give are happier and more contented overall.
  • Giving is the way God blesses others. God blesses us so we can bless others, then He rewards us with more blessings. (Matthew 25 and 2 Cor. 9:11)
  • Giving helps us live longer. Studies show we have lowered stress and live longer if we give of ourselves for and to others.
  • Giving is an act of obedience. “God loveth a cheerful giver,” says Paul in 2 Corinthians 9:7, and as a result, we will “abound in every good work.”
  • Giving gives your life added meaning. Growing in generosity helps us define ourselves in new ways.
  • Giving makes you listen differently. Generous people listen to others’ stories, wondering how they can help.
  • Giving makes you look at your resources differently. Our resources become opportunities when viewed through the eyes of a generous spirit.
  • Giving promotes a universal good. Sharing ourselves and resources builds bridges with marginalized and polarized groups.
  • Giving helps create lasting relationships. Even small acts of kindness build trust, harmony and mutual appreciation.

But we should not give solely to reap benefits, although there are many more positive effects of generosity than shared here. Jesus stressed that it is more blessed to give than to receive, but as in the parable of the talents, there is indeed a big benefit for those who give in His name: It pleases God, and that is our ultimate goal. Isn’t it?

If you can’t assist Southwest Radio Ministries and Prophecy in the News financially, we would be honored by your gifts of prayers and/or advocacy for our media ministries, as well as our Pakistan School for Christian youth and Onesimus Prisoner Outreach. Keep passing along the Good News of God’s great gift of Jesus and salvation, and if you will, please point others to Southwest Radio Ministries, which has shared that Gospel on the airwaves and through our resources and regular publications for 91 blessed years.
