The Healing Balm of Gilead

Is there no balm in Gilead; is there no physician there? why then is not the health of the daughter of my people recovered?
Jeremiah 8:22

As I’ve gotten older, it is amazing how much winter weather takes its toll on my skin. Driving down the road the other day my hands began to hurt due to exposure of the harsh winter conditions. I asked those riding in my truck, “Do you have any lotion?” My negligence and unawareness left me in a place of pain, because I had ignored all the warning signs and chose to tackle elements beyond my control without the antidote with me.

I was so appreciative when I heard one of our daughters say, “I have some lotion you can use.”  Just before handing it to me she said, with a smile, “It is lavender scent.”  My reply to her was, “I do not care what flower my hands smell like, I simply need a cure.”

Due to Israel’s abominations, she found herself without the balm/salve of the Great Physician. Scripture tells us they had rejected the Word of the Lord, and there was not wisdom in the wise men, reaching a place where they were unashamed when they committed abominations.

Maybe you find yourself like Israel, with broken lives and weathered existence. The elements of life have weathered you until your life, like my hands, is beginning to crack, bleed, and hurt.  You, like I, left out on the journey unprepared for the elements at hand.  Do what I did. Come to realize, no matter the scent, aroma, or fragrance of the healing balm, you need help.

No matter where you are right now, whether you are driving, working, or sitting at home having coffee, no matter your location, one thing is for certain. The Healing Balm of Gilead is as close as the mention of His name, JESUS!

Our prayer for you this week: May you take the time to have the Balm of Gilead poured over your life, helping to rid you of the pain the elements around you have inflicted.
