Before The Late, Great Planet Earth, before Left Behind, and before the many other “last days” novels, there was In the Twinkling of an Eye by Sidney Watson, published in Great Britain in 1910 and in the United States in 1917. Few libraries boast an original copy these days, but a century ago, Watson was aware of the soon return of Christ. It did not happen in his lifetime, but it very well may in ours.

While the original novel is quaint and at times antiquated by today’s standards both in style and vocabulary, it stands as a monument on a far shore to the subject of the imminence of Christ’s return, a subject often ignored in this day that Romans 13:11 references, “And that, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep: for now is our salvation nearer than when we believed.”
